I had the chance to preach a Youth Disciple Now weekend this past weekend in Ohio County. There were about 60 students between 3 churches that pulled their resources together to make something like that happen. I love seeing people work together to make something happen for Christ. It’s actually what we’re called to do. Look at the early church in Acts and the way they pulled their resources, personalities, likes, and dislikes together to do something incredible for Christ. Like I said last week, we love filling up buckets for people in Haiti, and we like filling up shoe boxes during Christmas for kids around the world, but we rarely see that type of cooperative effort between people for our own church to fulfill the mission IBT has here on 2nd and Adams. A church that cooperates is a church that sees people saved. That’s not an opinion, just look at the early Acts church again. THOUSANDS were being saved. I long for that. I long for such a cooperative spirit in a church that the outside world can’t help but see the Jesus we say we love actually oozing out of us in the community all because of the way we love each other here at IBT. Let’s be honest, we have a ways to go before that happens, but I can’t help but wonder what IBT would look like, in the 21st century, as a church that loves EVERYONE, beginning with loving each other within this very body. We can’t serve our community if we can’t serve and love each other. Keep filling those buckets, and a few months down the road, keep filling those shoe boxes, but between those times, love the person that sits in the pew behind you…serve the person that you don’t agree with in Sunday School…BE Jesus to the people of IBT and you’ll see that being Jesus to the people of Henderson becomes a lot easier and a lot more fruitful for the work of seeing people come to know that Jesus.
